What are Independent Dog Welfare Visitors?

Independent Dog Welfare Visitors are members of the public who observe, comment and report on the condition of the police dogs and their means of transportation whilst on duty.

Independent Dog Welfare Visitors Overview:

  • 24 visits were completed between 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2023, resulting in 132 dog checks
  • There are approx 65 Police Dogs across the force area
  • We have 6 Dog Welfare Visitors who complete visits to:
    • Etal Lane Police Station 
    • Durham Police kennels
    • Training venues
