SCHOOL LIAISON OFFICERS
What?
Although incidents are rare, there’s a job to do educating all young people about the dangers of knives. And so, we’ve funded force-wide knife crime sessions (virtually due to Covid) not only in schools but to colleges, cadets, scouts and youth groups. The more young people we reach with important messages and advice, the better. Our school liaison officers are also working to develop learning packages around domestic abuse and healthy relationships too.

Why?
Knife crime has truly devastating consequences. It’s vital that we encourage students to consider the impact and consequences that can come from just carrying a knife. It can ruin lives – the lives of victims, their families, and also the perpetrators.
We want to see ASB fall in areas where interventions are being delivered and we will continue to grow the number of engaged schools and youth groups. In February alone, 22 knife crime sessions were delivered to 441 young people throughout the force area and we will keep building on this.
