Let’s reclaim our parks!

In our Safer Streets Survey, 62% of local women said they felt unsafe or very unsafe in parks at night. We want to change that and we need your help. Together, let’s reclaim our parks.

To help, we’re launching the Safer Parks Northumbria Fund.

This is a £110K pot of funding and we want to see family fun days, women’s safety parades, community clear-ups and park-based picnics – to breathe new life into our green spaces and promote community safety

Are you passionate about parks? Do you want to be part of the change? Get your applications in now.

We want to empower and facilitate social action and community engagement events across the 6 parks in this campaign:

  • Raise public awareness of what to report
  • Increase active bystander activity
  • Promote attitudinal and behavioural change
  • Design positive park signage
  • Hold multi agency and community days of action
  • Promote positive ways in which the parks can be used

Let’s support women, girls and marginalised groups. Let’s help communities. Let’s take back ownership of our public spaces.

Closes Wednesday 9th February 2022.

These interventions should take place within the following parks in our region:

  • Hirst Park – Ashington
  • Richardson Dees Park – Wallsend
  • Leazes Park – Newcastle
  • Saltwell Park – Gateshead
  • North Marine Park – South Shields
  • Mowbray Park – Sunderland
