The Northumbria Violence Reduction Unit and Northumberland Tyne and Wear district DWP, work in partnership to deliver the Employability Support Programme.

The programme is designed to assist individuals with access to welfare benefits, progress into the workforce, enhance financial resilience, and reduce crime.

Referrals are welcomed from partners who are seeking to help individuals successfully engage with education, training, or employment opportunities.

Participants in the programme will have access to an Employability Support Co-ordinator, who provides intensive support to facilitate engagement with specialist services, as well as education, training and employment opportunities.

“The support I have received from Karen has helped me gain qualifications, and because of this I am now self-employed with regular contracts.”

“I started committing crime at a low point in my life, my mental health suffered and my benefit and housing claims were affected. Karen supported me in receiving my benefits, helped sort my housing, and I now have employment.”

“I was a victim of domestic abuse with two young children and my marriage breakdown. My husband claimed our benefits, and I was unable to change this without his consent, which left me with lots of debt. I committed crime to feed my family, and was sent to Karen as a result. Karen sorted my claim and helped me back into the workplace.”
